Alet-Mari Kunz

Occupational Therapist (BOT) · HPCSA Registered · Lynnwood Ridge, Pretoria

I'm an occupational therapist with a particular focus on adult mental health. Most of the adults I work with are navigating ADHD, burnout, anxiety, or depression — often a combination of more than one.

I qualified with a BOT from the University of Pretoria in 2011, and I've been working in adult mental health since then. Over time, my practice has focused increasingly on two areas where I find occupational therapy makes a real, measurable difference: ADHD and burnout.

Why occupational therapy

Occupational therapy is sometimes assumed to be about physical rehabilitation — making sure people can button their shirts after a stroke. That's a part of the profession, but not what I do. My work is about function: how people are managing their days, their work, their relationships, and their own energy.

What draws me to OT in mental health is that it's practical. We don't stay in the abstract. We're looking at your actual life — what you do from when you wake up to when you go to sleep — and figuring out where the friction is and what can change. That kind of work tends to produce change that sticks, because it's grounded in your real situation.

How I work

I work with adults in individual sessions, in small group cohorts, and through corporate workshops for organisations. Individual sessions are in-person at my practice in Lynnwood Ridge, Pretoria, or online for clients across South Africa.

I try to be direct and collaborative. I'm not here to give you a list of things you should be doing better — I'm here to figure out with you why things aren't working and what would actually help.

Areas of focus

The conditions I most often work with:

  • ADHD (adult) — executive function, routines, daily life systems
  • Burnout — recovery, load management, sustainable work patterns
  • Anxiety — practical coping strategies, activity management
  • Depression — occupational engagement, routine rebuilding
  • Sensory processing difficulties — environmental adaptation, sensory diet
  • Trauma — in collaboration with other mental health professionals where indicated
  • Life transitions — career change, relationship change, health changes
